Xiao Hua plot

Liu Xiaoqing and Joan Chen play characters named Xiaohua. One is sold as a child in the 1930s by her penniless parents, the other is rescued from revolutionary refugees by the same parents, and is given the name of the girl they sold. The second Xiaohua is an orphan, like her adopted brother Yongsheng, a future hero of the revolution. Meanwhile, the first Xiaohua has grown up and become a communist guerrilla fighter.
