Surfer, Dude plot

Steve Addington (Matthew McConaughey) is a talented and famous surfer. But when he returns to his hometown of Malibu after a world tour, he learns from his manager (Woody Harrelson) that he is broke. His sponsorship deal was bought by slick businessman Eddie Zarno (Jeffrey Nordling). He wants to record Steve's surfer moves for a virtual reality game. But Steve just wants to live the real surfer's life: smoking weed, lounging on the beach, and…surfing. He is determined not to deny himself for the big bucks. But Zarno doesn't shy away from tricking Steve...

"Duuude..."

We can hear this word above about 200 times in this film, in all shapes and sizes. Really liked this 'Surfer, Dude' actually. In any case, McConaughey is the perfect man to play the part of Steve. Walking around bare-chested, smoking, drinking and being nice and relaxed. I think it's funny. I like McConaughey anyway, cool dude.

The story may be very substandard, but the film has no pretensions at all and does not take itself seriously. Nice role from Harrelson too; ''Well, step in to my office, let's have a little conversation''. Well, the film doesn't want to be really special anywhere, but the atmosphere, some funny scenes and funny quotes make this quite doable. Two and a half stars for this movie I think.

I kind of agree with Kipling. I also think the score on MM is too low and therefore give 4.5 stars.

On the other hand, I don't see the film as a comedy, but more as… nothing really… non-existent genres like: Life, Reality, Vision, Nothing and that kind of crap come to mind. I also think the Road movie genre fits the film very well.

I personally think that at least Matthew and Woody just want to show with this film how much they love this way of life. Soul-Surfing... when the waves are gone, everything is gone, then the world stops spinning, you become completely paranoid.

And you want to be commercial, but you don't want to be able to surf any less! sponsors? I'd love to, because then I can just keep surfing and smoke my joint every day, (The Reason, in capital letters, for Harrelson to play this great part I guess?) but you don't live a pretentious life in some house for money to be earned when waves are waiting for you outside!

It's not about the story in this film. It's about a true soul surfer's vision of life. And that is? Surfing, dude! Spending a whole day on the beach waiting for a ripple in the water, that's what this film is about!

Next summer I will in any case learn to surf, lovely with my bare feet in the sand, wet hair, dry mouth and the sun on my back, I'm looking forward to that!
