It was a quiet and fun film, with a good atmosphere and use of color. Unfortunately, the film fell apart halfway through. This was because there was too much repetition, and the story was no longer interesting. In the course of the second half of the film, the story got going a bit more, but in my opinion it has not picked up again.
A nice film, but a lot of repetition 3* (6.5)

Expensive toys are not necessary for Stefek. Two sticks are enough for him. You are taken into the fantasy world of a straggler and his older sister. They believe in tricks to influence fate, for example by offering coins. The boy shares his haircut and his sense of adventure with Jommeke. His sister is a natural beauty. Fortunately, they didn't think it necessary to bleach her hair or paint her freckles.
It takes place in Wałbrzych (Waldenburg), a village near the Czech border. Usually the weather is sunny, occasionally interrupted by a heavy rain shower. This creates a more colorful and cheerful image of Poland. Different layers of the population cross their path, from a beggar to a wealthy employer. There is a lot of movement, with trains, cars, a motorcycle and flying pigeons. When they are not together, there are crosscuts between the static scene of the sister waiting for a job interview and the little brother running. Polka music supports the light-hearted atmosphere. There is a lot of humor in it, but there are also sad moments.

It is obligatory to slow down with this, in my opinion, very sympathetic film.
Some symbolism here and there, a magical edge, atmospheric slowness, scenes taken from life. I watch it once every 2-3 years and every time a pleasant, timeless print as far as I'm concerned.
Having visited Poland a number of times before and after the fall of the wall, the way the environment and people are presented in the film looks very realistic in my opinion.
