I stumbled across this film while browsing a website featuring 1950s film posters. I thought it was so cool that I immediately watched the film. It's a completely different film poster than the one here on MM, and in my opinion, much nicer.

But enough about the attractive poster. For me personally, The Long Memory was a film that took me a little while to get into during the first fifteen minutes, but that might also be because I haven't seen any film noirs in a while.

John Mills delivers a convincing enough performance, but John McCallum's performance clearly stood out for me. A man who wants nothing more than to uncover the truth and bends over backward to do his job properly and fairly, without ever overacting, his performance felt incredibly human and genuine, without a trace of hesitation.

One major drawback, and thankfully one of the few, is Eva Bergh's role, which, from the very beginning, comes across as much more forced and less experienced than her co-stars. Clearly chosen for her appearance, because let's be honest, she's beautiful and even cute

What makes this film so worthwhile is the acting talent of both male leads and the many Scottish characters in the setting. I also found this film noir, compared to many others, not particularly slow and it has survived the test of time reasonably well. (To what extent a 1950s film can survive that, that is. )

3.5*

Quite a good film that in fact not only focuses on the lead actor John Mills, but also

ultimately to the conscientious John McCallum, and both act excellently. An atmospheric film

also with beautiful images, especially of the desolate environment where Mills is hiding, and where

the thoroughly satisfying climax also takes place.

I can reasonably agree with the reviews of the two gentlemen above, the acting is more than good but Mills and McMallum stand head and shoulders above the rest, I certainly did not think Eva Bergh acted badly and she is a good added value to the story and ensures that Mills' character seems credible in the decisions he made at a given moment.

Overall this is a great and exciting thriller in which the revenge theme is incorporated very realistically into the story.
