Películas para No Dormir: Adivina Quién Soy plot

Estrella lives with her single mother who works as a nurse. For a young girl she has a rather macabre imagination. She likes horror movies and has several horror characters as her imaginary friends. One day, however, she gets a new friend, a vampire, but this time it's completely different. This time it's reality.

Good idea.

It took a while (just over 4 years in fact) but I was finally able to watch this sixth part. Typical of that "one missing film" is that the feeling of having finally found it dominates the expectation, also here.

Apart from the very nice idea and the shameless execution (Simply introducing Leatherface as an icon in a completely unrelated film, I found it quite surprising) it is a fairly tame film. Quiet structure, horror elements that support the drama rather than the other way around and a not really great audiovisual effect sometimes make it a bit boring.

Fortunately it doesn't last long and there are plenty of scenes where the film revives. All in all, a nice film that relies on the basic idea and individual scenes.

3.0*

This is definitely the least of this TV horror film series that I have seen so far (I'm only halfway through and have only seen the better Para Entrar a Vivir ( Balagueró) and the much better La Habitación del Niño (Álex de la Iglesia)). The low budget is clearly noticeable here, in contrast to the other two films. The idea is nice, and the protagonists don't play badly (I can't say that about the monsters, by the way), but the execution is substandard, especially the visual (image, camera work, lighting, etc.)

This short film, unlike the other two films I mentioned above, was not able to make good use of the short duration, it started unclear and also came across as long-winded.

For me, this is also the second film by Enrique Urbizu that I have seen, and also the second disappointment, although the first film I saw by him was No Habrá Paz Para los Malvados (2011) for me personally a bigger disappointment than this.

Insufficient, shame about the good idea.

Young Estrella is often home alone because of her mother's work. To eliminate her isolation, the contact-shy and headstrong teenager creates a dream world populated by monsters from the books she reads and the films she watches. She sees no threat in the monsters. They are for her allies who stand by her in her isolation. They give her the attention she lacks in real life.

Director Enrique Urbizu refrains from grand effects and bloody action in his film. The focus is on the action and the characters. He also manages to create a nice ominous atmosphere with simple means. Night bus trips, a deserted street scene and an abandoned parking garage are sufficient. These are cleverly placed parts that provide the story with a disturbing impulse.

In Adivina Quién Soy, the horror lies beneath the surface. The horror hides in the fantasy. In the fears, assumptions and expectations that live in people's minds. Adivina Quién Soy was created on a small budget. That can be seen here and there. A small budget sometimes also leads to subtle and refined use of the resources that are available, such as a story and characters. That worked out well here.
