Mostly just really boring.

Thankfully, the film doesn't have a long introduction and dives straight into the action. The bugs look pretty good for a B-movie, but unfortunately, there's so little creativity and originality that the film quickly becomes a drag. A group of survivors runs to point A, runs to point B, runs to point C, and so on, finally ending up in the hive. That was the best part of the film.

The cast is uninteresting, only Brooke Nevin is enjoyable to watch. I was particularly disappointed with the film's comedy. I didn't expect to be in stitches all the time, but there were few, if any, funny moments. The film has a comedic undertone and doesn't take itself seriously, but it wasn't all that funny.

Creature horror films often struggle with the budget constraints that lead to them manifesting as ironic trash that doesn't actually achieve any comedic effect. Infestation shows that there's another way. Instead of bombarding the viewer with hilarious splatter action, the film relies much more on humorous dialogue and enjoyable and believable characters. And it works.

Infestation is a good film. Looking at the poster on IMDB, you might expect a cheap horror comedy with lousy effects and flat characters. That impression isn't met.

The characters are more rounded than usual in such films and even evoke empathy.

The plot is delightfully absurd. Giant, vicious insects have taken over. Along with a few survivors, protagonist Cooper tries to fend off the aggressive creatures. It sounds silly, and it is, but it's a fun watch.

The monsters look great. The critical eye will certainly notice the high rubber content, but over time, the critical eye becomes less critical and it's simply enjoyable. The film is incredibly funny, which makes it forgiving. The highlight is the main monster, who resembles an alien monster from an 80s film and delivers a fantastic performance.

A fun, nonsensical film. Infestation offers suspense, action, perfectly acceptable acting, and dark humor. And hey, the fact that it all makes no sense is simply part of the fun.

Despite limited funding, director Kyle Rankin deliberately opts for a large-scale concept, but as expected, it comes across as somewhat cheap. The effects (both digital and practical) are certainly subpar, but thankfully, the humor works better. The acting is also quite solid, and the pace is decent, but Rankin would have done better to keep the scale a bit smaller and perhaps add a heavier dose of gore. Pure entertainment, with plenty of room for improvement.
