"The immortal Hank Williams lives again. Sings again..."

Country singer Hank Williams becomes a well-known celebrity in a very short time. Despite his short career, he is a legend of American country music. His rapidly rising star soon begins to waver, however, as Hank's alcohol addiction takes his career quickly downhill until he dies at the age of 29.

This Hank Williams biography is stronger than expected.

George Hamilton is quite convincing and the songs are sung by Hank Williams Jr.

Widow Williams was also involved in the production so it could all have been that way, although she seemed to be quite a shrewd shrew and she herself is perhaps portrayed a bit more positively here.

"Sometimes it's a heart attack, sometimes they just don't say

They pulled poor old Hank Williams out of a Cadillac CoupeDeVille

He ended up on alcohol and pills"

(Fred Eaglesmith)

After I Saw The Light I was looking forward to another biopic about Hank Williams. This was made a few years after his death and with the cooperation of his ex Audrey. It shows because this movie doesn't even show the separation of the couple as if they stayed together until the end. Also nothing about Hank's many relationships and slip-ups. However, his relationship with the drink is discussed in detail. It is a sad story about an unhappy man. Only the relationship with Audrey brings some jollity in the initial phase with a small injection of screwball, which also fits the era of the film. And of course the music of this natural talent also remains intact. I do not necessarily judge biopics based on their truthfulness because it always concerns a selection of facts and interpretations about them. In any case, it was entertaining enough even though it is essentially a very dark story.
