One of those Belgian classics that I have always missed. Now it finally happened. With a young Frank Vercruyssen, better known today as the tax inspector in the film Zillion (Film, 2022). This movie is also almost 30 years old. Vercruyssen is actually a lookalike of Wout Van Aert.
Nice film, not a great film, but just very solid. Partly thanks to the cast who do well. Sidekicks Crets and Opbrouck in cheerful supporting roles. And of course Ann Petersen who is doing well as a grumpy concierge. A film with a laugh and a tear, with a romance that just doesn't get off the ground.
Manneken Pis is a film shot in the spirit of Stijn Coninx's Urbanus films. Not that funny of course, but in that solid Flemish style. Very atmospheric with the tram and the apartment building with rickety elevator.
