Helen is a nervous girl who, after her stay in a mental institution, has taken up residence in an immense Victorian mansion. Her friend Anne comes to stay with her. Soon Anne thinks she hears footsteps and strange noises in a locked attic at night. She learns from the enigmatic overseer that her former friend Cora has mysteriously drowned in the ponds of the vast domain. When Anne's boyfriend comes to visit, Helen becomes very jealous.
