Nice movie with a nice story, but something is missing.

Acting was good too.

Special effects varying.

I already knew the phenomenon 'Tommyknockers' from the band Blind Guardian. They sang about it back in 1990, but I always thought they sang about the real Tommyknockers, the Welsh counterpart of the Leprechaun. Partly because of the failure in Leprechaun (1993), I hoped this adaptation would actually be a really good film about these elves. The film is ultimately better (and fortunately entertaining), but the outcome is different than I had hoped. Incidentally, Blind Guardian's lyrics do indicate the real tommyknockers, but the chorus (Oh, last night, and the night before…) is also mentioned several times in the film. I've never read anything by Stephen King, but I'm assuming the lyrics are based on his book.

In any case, the film offers a very entertaining story about a village that is slowly falling under the spell of these so-called Tommyknockers. The result looks cheap, but that doesn't bother me much. In any case, this is one of the more entertaining King films. Lately I've seen too much crap and then The Tommyknockers is a nice change. I can imagine that this is too long. I watched it on VHS, where it lasted 120 minutes. I actually thought that was long enough. Pretty good movie with interesting content.

I used to find these very exciting (I believe I was about 12 when I watched this one x on TV) Now the SE are a bit dated, but I can see through it. Smits plays his part very convincingly and then of course we also have the beautiful Traci Lords Recommended for the sci-fi and Stephen KIng fans.
