It certainly has the look of the French classics, but boy, wasn't this unnecessary? Painfully slow and not interesting enough. If you watch this late at night, I can almost guarantee you'll fall asleep.

Whether it is presented as a comedy ("La Cuisine au Beurre") or as a drama, the fact is that the deportations during WWII and its aftermath have caused many changes in people's lives.
"Une aussi longue abscence" is a good and remarkable example of this.
Perhaps the film as presented does not always seem acceptable and even somewhat unbelievable, but it still contains a lot of understandable emotional feelings, especially in the last part. At those moments it was really allowed to be slow for me and I had nothing against the nostalgic music ("Trois petites notes de musique")...
Overall, certainly enjoyable
