Stays very well.

Important film for Lee, it is the first time that he manages to put together a somewhat gritty drama with a solid cast. The period was also perfect, early-mid 00s was ideal to set up this kind of film. And the good thing is that they have lost little in quality.

Odagiri, Kuriyama and Kose are very strong, visually there is a sharp edge to it, but the film also contains more than enough great shots. The soundtrack is a bit more modern, the setup of the story is fascinating and the film remains difficult to estimate, because a lot depends on the arbitrariness of the main character.

Lee would later squeeze a few solid dramas out of his ribcage, but this is the moment that it all started to turn in his career. I do miss them a bit, these kind of edgier Japanese dramas (with a slight punk vibe in them). Kind of strange that this film has been snowed under over the years, Scrap Heaven deserves better.
