In 'It has been a beautiful day', Jos de Putter portrays his parents' last harvest year on their farm in Zeeuws Vlaanderen. The four seasons are captured in 75 long, subdued shots. Characteristic images of actions, which have been performed in a similar way for centuries and sometimes take on a ritual dimension; Hands counting the number of grains per stalk. Hands counting the money after the cows are sold. In the silence, in the absence of a voice-over or reportage style, in the sparse words that are spoken, the characters, the parents, the country and the traditions literally rooted in the earth come to life.
