Out of Love plot
When cook Nikolai sees Varya sitting at the bar from his kitchen, it's love at first sight. The Greek woman with a Russian name and the Russian Nikolai meet in an indeterminate city. But the double meaning of the film title soon becomes clear: the things we do 'out of love' are by no means always loving. Where there is real love and passion, you can really hurt each other, and insecurity, provocation and even violence are lurking. The line between passionate love and destructive obsession turns out to be paper thin for Varya and Nikolai, whose fiercely blossoming relationship is presented in frayed ellipses.
