"The Star of Stars in the Hit of Hits!"

Passionate Broadway director Oscar Jaffe (John Barrymore) turns one of his discoveries, Lily Garland (Carole Lombard), into a star. Because of Oscar's dominating behavior, Lily flees to Hollywood. Now that his star attraction is gone, Jaffe's career is going downhill. By chance, he runs into Lily again aboard the 20th Century Ltd., the train from Chicago to New York. Oscar pulls out all the stops to get his former star to sign a new contract.
