The myths of Samson and Masada teach the young Israelis that death is more commendable than submission. Today, however, as the second Intifada has reached its peak, the Palestinians still have to endure the humiliations of the Israeli military every day. Farmers are not allowed to work their fields, children are held for hours in a checkpoint when they return from school, an old woman is not allowed to visit her daughter... The Palestinians are tired, exhausted. Like the Jews against the Romans or Samson against the Philistines, they cry out in anger and impotence.
