Afterburn.

The F16. Back in the early 80s, it was a staple in my boy's bedroom—in both 1:72 and 1:32 scales. But what was little known back then was that there were some subtle problems with screws and wiring harnesses. And yes, eventually, things would go wrong.

That's what this somewhat lazy and cheap TV production is about—but on the other hand, it also has a very fine cast; the ambition was definitely there to make it something more. And a film starring Laura Dern can hardly be anything less than brilliant. Well, the end credits music seriously detracts from it. Apparently, none other than Stuart Copeland was responsible for the rest of the soundtrack—and what a complete lack of impact that makes, but even that demonstrates that the ambitions were actually higher than a film in the hopeless 4:3 format. A real shame.

Furthermore, the final credits reveal some of the "real" details. There's a law in the US that prevents active-duty military personnel from suing for their service, or anything like that. And there are also countless contracts that indemnify defense contractors against defective products. This was fodder for the crackpots here during the coronavirus pandemic, because they thought the same would apply to vaccines in the EU. No, it didn't. It's still a despicable practice, and patently illegal—and something a functioning Supreme Court should be able to handle in a few minutes. Apparently not. It's a shame, but then again, we're so lucky here in the EU.
