Sidney Pythius (Jerry Lewis) is a bumbling janitor who becomes involved in an incident and is mistaken for a member of a youth gang. He is persuaded to make a radical change from gang member to accomplished police officer. At the police academy it is police officer Mike Damon (Darren McGavin), who must turn him into a decent law enforcement officer. But who can the police turn to for help if Sidney causes nothing but chaos during his training?
