The year is 1984. Estela struggles with all the problems that come with a teenage life: sex, boyfriends and girlfriends. Her uncle Carlos is her hero and her greatest wish is to visit him in California where he lives and works. Her dream shatters when Carlos suddenly shows up at the door in Brazil. Carlos is visibly in bad shape and turns out to be seriously ill. Between all the crises and discoveries, Estela is confronted with a reality that will forever change her view of the world.
