Free Zone plot

Rebecca (Natalie Portman), a young American with Jewish roots who has lived in Jerusalem for a while, decides to break off her engagement. Overwhelmed by emotions, she gets into a taxi and asks the driver to take her as far as possible from the place where she ended her relationship. Hanna, the driver, after some hesitation, decides to take her to the Jordanian 'free zone', where she will meet her husband's Palestinian business partner. Once at their destination, Rebecca and Hanna are met by the Palestinian Leila, who, after Hanna's urging, takes them to the oasis where the business partner is staying.

The only positive thing about the entire film - and that was also what triggered me to watch it - was the ever beautiful Natalie Portman. What follows is an unclear, rather moderately shot road movie through Jordan with an unclear goal. I found it strange that the director also regularly returned to those double contour images that made no sense.

It started off nicely with that Israeli song about a lamb. That too with a strong entrance of an emotional Portman. Too bad that it was hardly interesting after that and the film got bogged down in one big void.
