Not "Boyz N The Hood" of course (far from it), but not as bad as they claim. I thought Anne Hathaway and Freddy Rodriguez acted pretty well. Anne's topless scenes are not really shocking. And that Bijou Phillips can also be seen well, I already knew from "Bully" (Larry Clark, 2001). The film interview, which is used as a common thread, does have a number of loose stitches.

How did this teensploitation gem escape my eye? Naive, but well-meaning sluts decide to trade their wannabe gangsta boyfriends for a rougher one - Latino drug dealers from East LA - with dire consequences. Film is rather caricatural, but nevertheless (or precisely because of that?) still fun. The plot is a bit like Spring Breakers, but less good. It is unclear to me what exactly the director wanted to convey. Here and there some tentative attempts to demonstrate the isolation of certain communities, but that clashes somewhat with the high Thirteen / shock value / Lifetime content. The denouement is a bit wrong and seems to say girls, if you're looking for it yourself, don't come and bleit afterwards when you get raped in your hole, The interview scenes that are supposed to reveal that the main character is actually very 'deep' should not have been for me.

Very mediocre, the film didn't grab me for a moment. Somehow this didn't feel believable anywhere, more like clean-play. The two girls still act nice, but all those friends and men around them were acting very tough. The film never gets exciting, fascinating, funny or whatever. Visually nice, yes, although there is little atmosphere of East LA and LA as a whole. It is nice and short and the film is also over quite quickly, so the pace was still good. 1.5*.
