In my quest to see all the films featuring Gene Hackman, I occasionally stumble across true gems—films that make me wonder why they seem to have been forgotten. This isn't one of them. It's more like an episode of some TV series we used to watch because the only alternative was Nederland 2. Back when color was still a novelty, and the world outside the television still seemed black and white.

Part of that is Robert Wagner—never a particularly good actor, I believe, but hopelessly entangled in those kinds of series. But I also find Hackman unappealing in this small supporting role. And the rest of the cast, too—well, Jill St. John doesn't bother me, but there's pretty much nothing more to it than that. A kind of snapshot of the late 1960s, but not in a positive way. Just like the story, which is also a pile of clichés from the era of The Saint, Gerard de Villiers, and a hundred thousand episodes of Hart to Hart.

That Quincy Jones song might be the best part of the whole movie - but it's not really my thing.
