Bob Hope plays the fake explorer Matt Merriwether, who pretends to be an expert on the dark continent by extracting all his information and knowledge from his uncle's old diaries. When an American space pod lands in uncharted territory in Africa, Merriwether is consulted to find the capsule. Secret agent Frederica Larsen (Edie Adams) also goes along with Merriwether. Chased by Russian spies Luba (Anita Ekberg) and Dr. Ezra Mungo (Lionel Jeffries), who want to get to the pod earlier.
