Very strong film about the life of Saint Vincent de Paul, a French priest, later canonized, beautifully played by Pierre Fresnay.

Some very expressive and poignant scenes that illustrate the poverty and neglect of the sick and several strong statements, such as "Instead of taking care of their souls, we must ensure that they have a life that they are aware of...". There is also a beautiful scene with slaves on a galley.

Very believable account.

Winner of the 1948 Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film. It is difficult to estimate whether this was justified because there were no nominations at the time.

It is a film that pays tribute to the now canonized Vincent de Paulo, who as a priest in the early 17th century stood up for the poor and the hungry.

Depicted quite nicely. A lot of misery, of course, and he also had to deal with the plague. There was no Jesus figure who could feed 1000 people with 5 loaves of bread, so he had to be creative. Impressive images there of that galley ship that was pushed forward by slaves. Not a masterpiece, but not a bad film by any means. Great role by Pierre Fresnay!
