Visually and production-wise interesting and particularly impressive for a graduation film, but in terms of content quite empty and boring. 2*

Considering the meager budget, this graduation project by director Roland Emmerich is visually quite impressive, but in terms of content it is fatally boring. However, the effects are impressive, something that would serve him well later in Hollywood. As a debut film it is of course interesting (and nice to see a space shuttle here, for example, just like in his recent Moonfall), but the film is difficult to watch due to the meager plot, flat characters and lack of tension.

For a graduation film, this debut by director Roland Emmerich is certainly very impressive on a technical level, but unfortunately rather weak in terms of content. Nevertheless, plenty of socially critical and fascinating concepts are introduced in the background, but these are hardly explored in depth by Emmerich. Instead, a more psychological approach to two main characters who both act boring in their own way. The series of spaceship settings and interpersonal escalation also fails to remain interesting for 100 minutes, making this film (as other users have rightly pointed out) quite a challenge to get through. Because visually it is quite well thought out and cleverly designed, I give it a 2.0*, but I cannot say that I can still remember the film in 3 days.
