Berlin Correspondent plot

"He Lived Thru A Nazi Nightmare You'll Never Forget!"

The American correspondent Bill Roberts is the louse in the fur of the Nazis, because his newspaper writes the truth about the Germans. Gestapo captain Carl Von Rau has his girlfriend Karen infiltrate Robert's newspaper to find out the source of the stories. An old stamp collector turns out to be the source and soon he ends up in a concentration camp at the hands of Karen. When she discovers that the old boss is her father, Roberts, meanwhile, in love, comes to her aid.

A not bad starting point for this mix of melodrama, thriller and propaganda film, and the director keeps up the pace well, but the two main actors lack a bit of the necessary charisma, and the film loses credibility halfway through due to a not-to-be-taken-seriously disguised party. Nevertheless, quite worth seeing because of the professional finish and the then already unambiguous portrayal of a number of methods that the Nazis used to silence their critics. Painful vignette when the director of an institution for the "mentally ill" points to a handicapped girl: her fate is sealed, but then the film continues with Dana Andrews' attempt to free someone else. I understand that the hero cannot save the whole world at once, but it is still a poignant moment.
