The Brain Eaters plot

"Crawling, Slimy Things, Terror-Bent on Destroying the World!"

dr. Paul Kettering is a scientist who is confronted with a large, perhaps extraterrestrial 'case' that sends parasites on the population of a small town. These attach themselves to people's necks and from there take control of their brains. All this appears to have been cooked up by an old man, a former professor, who wants to lift the world's population to a 'higher level' in this way.

Nah, this was shit. Of course, the film is not nearly as exciting or cool as the poster or title itself suggests. It is only a mediocre story about parasites, which do not come from outer space this time, but have been stored in the interior of the earth for 200 million years. After that it stops in terms of originality and there is a lot of dull shooting with pistols interspersed with dull dialogues.

The most bizarre thing is that great dramatic music by Shostakovich and Prokofiev is used continuously. At times it seems rather megalomaniac and laughable in such an insignificant film as this.

The suggestive nature of the film didn't bother me that much. This clearly had a budgetary reason + in 1958 they were not yet so graphically oriented.
This film was released in NL under the Arkoff Collection and the DVD cover kept drawing my attention.
In addition, the plot seemed interesting at first. Unfortunately, the effect is a lot less interesting. What was already outdated even in 1958 and was no longer possible was the voice-over / narration of the protagonist.
Furthermore, the sparse action that the parasites caused is rather slow and boring. Add to that the fact that the added drama doesn't come across due to mediocre acting and a very exaggerated soundtrack.
As a result, there is very little left to entertain you as a viewer even for this small hour.
What I found original was that the parasites turned out not to be aliens, because I don't think I've ever seen that in a movie like this.
1950s B-material that just doesn't have much to offer viewers.

There was not a lot of budget for special FX, the film could have boosted that a bit. In the scenes in which the parasites should be seen a lot, we see a lot of fog. And because of the fog we also miss a clear picture of the young Leonard Nimoy (on the title role his name was also misspelled as Nemoy).

The story itself is pretty nice. Parasites from a mysterious spaceship take over the inhabitants of a small town and turn them into weak-willed zombies who place more jars full of parasites. May our heroes stop this invasion. And who are infected? Look carefully for anything moving in their back, just below the neck, because that's where the parasites bite on us to take over our nervous system and our will with the acid from their bodies!
