Valerie a Týden Divu plot
Valerie is a teenage girl who lives with her grandmother. She becomes aware of her sexuality, just when there is a fair in town. Eagle is a young man who gives her a pair of magical earrings. Her fantasy begins when she dreams that she is the daughter of a bishop and her grandmother is a vampire. A priest also tries to rape her. However, the boundary between dream and reality is not entirely clear.

Beautiful 
And I'm not just talking about the film, but also about the oh so wonderful Valerie, beautifully played by Jaroslava Schallerová. What would this movie be without her appearance? She is also really cut out for this dreamy surreal fairy tale or whatever you want to call it. In any case, this very atmospheric film had a very hypnotic effect on me, not only because of the beautiful fairytale images, but also because of the beautiful soundtrack. I especially loved the last five minutes of this video.

Dreamy fantasy from Czechoslovakia 1970, white dresses, bunches of grapes, forests, vampires and blood.... indeed we are going to think a bit about Kate Bush.
Valerie's leading role therefore has a kind of Kate Bush-like appearance with which she walks between the monsters and love and sex.
It doesn't really have a narrative plot, it's a week in the life of 13-year-old Valerie and her dream image of the adult world.
And here again it is the priest who is the real evil.
Less than an hour and a half and that is exactly a nice length for this film.

Jaroslava is truly hauntingly beautiful. Always a bit dangerous to say that about a 13-year-old (when watching the film I had the idea that she was young, but I didn't expect 13) but it is true and I really don't mean anything "crazy" by it . it is mainly her look (plus eye shadow) that has a wonderfully hypnotic effect, so that you really have the feeling that you are peeping into her dream.
She also creates a unique bond with the viewer without revealing too much about herself. That is really exceptionally nice. Furthermore, visually very nice, especially when you know that this film comes from 1970 (!). The colours/contrasts and lighting keep the film interesting enough as soon as Jaroslava briefly disappears from view. Although I must say that the other characters are also very unique and that way the film remains fresh and completely idiosyncratic.
Finally, a wonderfully dreamy soundtrack that forges everything together into a very beautiful and memorable whole.
