A reasonable film with Rondo Hatton, a face you won't forget quickly. How he got those features is tragic (if the story above is true).

The storyline is a bit predictable by today's standards and the ending even more so. Still, I didn't get bored much, partly because of the short playing time, although those newspaper headlines did get a bit annoying at the end (but they often did that in those days).

Don't expect great horrors, because the film doesn't have that to offer. A nice thriller/drama about 'The Creeper'.

Nice little movie with horror elements, certainly not scary but entertaining stuff because of the speed!
Jane Adams was the biggest asset in this film for me as the blind and therefore unbiased woman, something Hal needed most was someone he could trust and someone who wasn't afraid of him.

The ending is predictable as others have said and secretly I thought it was a shame that Helen (Jane) reported him to the police and it feels quite strange that he wanted to do something to her after that newspaper article, but hey, it's just a horror movie of course!

I can definitely give this 3 stars, not special or innovative (not even for that time) but nice and fast and entertaining.

Not nearly as bad as I expected. I mean, it certainly wasn't great, but it's a pretty entertaining story and the cinematography and plot were pretty bearable. To give some context, I saw this in the MST3K version (nice episode btw), so I was prepared to expect the worst in every movie-related aspect. But this is still a lot better than what's on average on MST3K.

On the other hand, it's quite a tragic story, both in the film and around it - lead actor Rondo Hatton was (as otherfool already mentioned) disfigured in the First World War, and because of his rather unusual face he has built a marginal acting career in which he was almost always cast for his head. Indeed, for roles as monster, Ugly Man, Leper, and that sort of thing.

The Brute Man is also a kick in the teeth for people like Hatton: the whole plot is actually that a man, Hatton and nicknamed The Creeper, starts killing because he has such an ugly deformed face. The nice short film mainly follows the relationship between him and a blind woman, who treats him normally but ultimately betrays him, and the serial killing practices of The Creeper and the associated investigation. Simple plot, somewhat predictable too, but a plot in general is not something you can expect in an MST3K film. And The Brute Man is reasonably atmospheric, acceptably acted and also quite capably filmed. Quite a successful film for late at night.
