Absurdly low score here, and on IMDb. An East German sci-fi that is certainly not inferior to American or other productions from that time. Maybe the many references to the atomic bomb are not well received in the US, or because it is a "Soviet" product? It is not a masterpiece and the special effects could sometimes be better, but for lovers of sci-fi (classics) this is good to do. 3*

Still handy that our scientists can fully restore and translate a message from Venus! In the meantime, an international cast of course investigates and makes a number of surprising (and not very credible) discoveries about the planet. The actors do their best and considering the budget, the film is made quite competently, but it is mainly a lot of talk and the film takes itself far too seriously to really be amusing.

The original version looked better than the 'screwed up' American version I saw earlier. Maybe a bit too ambitious, but doable because we got to see enough decors and action in addition to the usual extensive 'science talk' in this genre. Admittedly a bit toy-like at times, but doable if you can appreciate that old sci-fi.
