A bit too straightforward for my giallo taste. No memorable triple plot twists and too few characters who might well be the killer with the leather gloves. Umberto Lenzi throws in one more drill kill, but other than that it all remains a bit tame.

A giallo film that still requires a lot of attention. The title refers to a scene where seven blood-stained orchids lie on a gravestone, linking to a list of seven women targeted by the killer. The list of women was created by the fact that the killer wants revenge for the death of his brother which one of those seven ladies suffered during a car accident where the brother was left behind and died. The lady also had an affair with the brother. The list of women: the whore Ines (Gabriella Giorgelli)

Anita Ferri, Kathy Adams (Marina Malfatti), Elena Marchi (Rossella Falk), Concetta de Rosa (Petra Schürmann), Anna Sartori (double role of Marisa Mell who plays twins here) and Giulia (Uschi Glas) who were all in the hotel worked where his brother stayed. Apart from a drill murder, the other kills are well-behaved considering the later work of director Umberto Lenzi. Quite an entertaining film where the killer cannot be predicted immediately. Another plus point is the sound, which gives certain scenes some strength and style. 7/10

Alright, break it down.

What? Without a search warrant sir?

Yes, I'll get one tomorrow.

Phew, quite boring Giallo again, this time by Umberto Lenzi (best known to me from the wonderful cannibal film Cannibal Ferox). I'm slowly starting to wonder whether Giallo is my genre. I can enjoy something like Argento's Tenebre or Fulci's The New York Ripper. But I often find the more traditional Giallos from the 70s to be quite long.

Starts at an unusually fast pace with lots of slashings. However, the kills are quite underwhelming. After this flying start we get the usual who dunnit plot with some stiffs in 3 piece suits trying to find out who the murderer is. And that is where things go wrong for me in this film (and many 70's Giallos). It's all a bit too polished for me, a bit too slow, a bit too theatrical (ladies fainting at the slightest thing) but above all a bit too well-behaved. It's just barely interesting. I like my Italian horror a lot more when it's a bit more all out and trashy.

The ladies are all very beautiful and the Ortolani soundtrack is entertaining. Unfortunately I couldn't get much more out of this.

I always think it is such a huge weakness of these types of films that at the end the killer has to quickly explain in a monologue what exactly motivated him/her to commit the murders because otherwise there is no way to make sense of it. But maybe that's a sign enough that Giallo might not be my genre after all.

Featuring the most childish police sketch ever.
