Not a bad movie at all, and less slow than I expected. Although the film gets off to a somewhat slow and chatty start, it picks up speed after that. He was given the motto 'A film from the mobilization period', and that was correct: a month later the Germans showed up on the doorstep and the film was no longer allowed to be shown. Not until 1960, and that is remarkable. Apparently, immediately after the war, the public no longer wanted to be reminded of that time.

Beautiful roles by a very young Jan de Hartog and Lily Bouwmeester. But who is that beautiful girl with whom Frans dances and who has to evacuate from the inundation? I couldn't find her name. Quite a bit. Our 'national star' Fientje de la Mar only got a very small role, and that is also remarkable. Furthermore, beautiful images of the flooding of the polders and the dismantling of sea mines. A lot of attention has been paid to the camera work and editing. The film does deserve a restoration of the image and sound. So Eye is at work.

What's funny is that someone says about the character Frans van Loon (Jan de Hartog): nice guy but he drinks a lot. Well, that also applied to Jan de Hartog, I know from my own experience.
