"They Murdered the Woman She Thought Was Her Mother -- And Now They're After Her -- But Why?"
De Pooi tells the story of 17-year-old Valerie who lives alone with her mother in a village in North Holland. One evening, just before her final exams, the police bring her a terrible message: her mother has just been hit by a car and died as a result of the accident. Her world comes crashing down the next day when she learns that her mother cannot possibly be her real mother. Research at the hospital has shown that the woman never gave birth to a child. An exciting story unfolds in which Valerie is determined to find out who her mother was, and - almost more importantly - who she herself is. The film gains momentum when it turns out that her mother's accident was not just an accident and that the killer is now after her.

God, what a boring, dry, and completely unexciting story this was. Perhaps also because I couldn't get through it properly due to the poor picture quality and the very mediocre acting. It was a bit too dated for me anyway.
Valerie is a nice girl to look at, but I thought she was a bit of a pathetic character. She didn't really connect with me, partly because of her dialogue—what a dull affair. A typical case of "sit and be pretty" and mostly silence. Valerie's voice kept reminding me of Babette van Veen, when she played "Linda Dekker" on GTST.
I hated the music! It was completely inappropriate in some moments, and more annoying than adding to the atmosphere. This film won't stay with me long; perhaps the awful music will haunt my dreams, but in terms of story, acting, and atmosphere, it's too weak.

A rather mediocre film. I've never really believed in Dutch productions, and I understand why. While the film starts off (somewhat) suspenseful, it becomes a kind of mysterious drama. If you watch the whole thing, you'll think: oh yeah, right? Again, there's a lot of nudity and very little real story. I recommend: don't watch this stupid film!
