In 1979 the trailer of the new Dutch production Twee Vrouwen headlined ambitiously 'the first international Dutch film'. Not entirely true - among others the Scorpio productions Obsessions (1967), Rubia's Jungle (1969) and Rademakers' Because of the Cats (1973 ) preceded the film -, but with Ingmar Bergman star Bibi Andersson (Persona, ) and Anthony Perkins (Psycho) in the lead roles, English language and stylish cinematography with sultry images, Two Women does everything possible to make the ambition that she wanted to radiate in advance become reality. The film, directed and produced by George Sluizer, therefore aimed high, but was not entirely convincing both nationally and internationally.

Dialogues come across as far too unnatural and the playing is quite wooden. Andersson is actually the only one who manages to hold his own a little bit despite the strange dialogues. Nice to see an older Anthony Perkins and Bibi Andersson roll a shaggie. Still, I was not bored with this movie.

Despite the fact that little happens, it is quite a fascinating film, which is mainly due to the period in which this was filmed, almost 45 years ago. Great atmosphere with interesting actors and props. I found the acting quite meager; as if each sentence was read as a stand-alone thing. I don't know Mulisch's book, but Harry did have fantasy. I would almost say 'Dirty Harry'. Besides the persons mentioned in the credits, there were a few acquaintances to see such as Berend Boudewijn - Wikipedia (in the 46th minute in the theater- lobby accompanied by the music of the now defunct Resistance orchestra). Also nice in the credits: with the cooperation of Hans Winkel Brillen...
