Started with low expectations because of the mediocre ratings. And for a moment it seems to work out well, only to collapse like a pudding. Reason why a decent story attracted me at all is because it shows similarities with Peter Benchley's Amphibian, a book I loved as a teenager.

The idea is good, the youth who find the wreck of a U-boat while diving during their vacation. The wet dream of every sports diver and or 2nd World War expert. It is then the mystical and mysterious tone of slamming doors and nonsense that make the until then reasonable atmosphere swing into something funny and youthful, say a boy's book adventure.

Of course, reality goes completely overboard with the livable conditions in the U-boat. With so much air in the hull, it's a miracle that the colossus is underwater. Where the 'competition' with agenda is as predictable as it is nice, the actual cargo is mediocre not to mention the special effects. It turns the phenomenon of the children into something repulsively bad and something the filmmakers certainly didn't have in mind.

No, Beyond is not good as expected. Quickly on to the next one.

Two brothers spend the summer on their grandfather's boat and discover a mysterious WWII submarine. Co-written by Anders Thomas Jensen, this is an uneven but entertaining youth film with a healthy dose of spooky stuff reminiscent of Lars Von Trier's The Kingdom. In the second half, you have to take the improbable, Indiana Jones-like plot twists with a grain of salt, but the fun characters and Åke Sandgren's smooth direction keep it afloat.
