Pretty much the first direct-to-video feature film. Really cheap. Unfortunately, otherwise completely crap horror. There's also little to experience for gore lovers.

I think this was pretty much my first SOV (shot on video). All in all I thought it was pretty good. Yes, the "acting" was pretty bad. The director had hired a bunch of ladies who seemed to have only one job: "scream as loud as possible".

The story is very similar to Blood Feast by HG Lewis. Someone is murdering young women and taking body parts for a ritual. This while a detective tries to figure out who is behind it.

The murders are somewhat uninspired chopping with a butcher's knife and don't amount to much. Furthermore, the acting of Charles Ellis as the director is also not particularly good.

What I did like, however, was the camera work, because it does look quite professional from time to time. Only now and then, like in the opening sequence, there are some strange shots. I also thought Rod Slane's music was quite good. However, the film never really gets exciting, but that is more due to the acting.

Okay, Blood Cult may not be a good movie, but I have to admit that I expected worse going in.
