"She loved the man, even though she thought he was a murderer!"

Doris and Marian, two schoolteachers, look for a friend who disappeared some time ago in the Yorkshire swamps. However, the two women are completely different in character and they constantly collide with each other during their search. A frugal fiver from alexspyforever, while he does list quite a few plus points. So be it. I'm a bit more positive. Lovely that black and white and those weird characters. Oh well, you shouldn't take that romance too seriously and of course this isn't horror at all, but it is a solid mystery/thriller, with a good balance between the exterior and interior shots, the necessary suspense, a few twists and a great denouement, which I didn't see coming. And a great pace, no dragging at all. And also nice that Morris 'bullnose' (nice when it rains, which it does there all the time). I've been to similar Moors before, well you shouldn't go wandering there, as the ladies do rather stupidly. I even shouted, don't do it, but no way will they listen. The undisputed star of the film is of course a still young James Mason. Man, what an actor, the craftsmanship is obvious. He plays a reclusive war veteran, who we immediately see suffers from PTSD, but nobody had heard of it at the time. The nice girl who takes care of him will have her hands full with that. Don't do it, I shouted, but yes, love...
