A film made for TV, without a very high budget and a bit predictable. It is entertaining, although the acting is variable and there is a single scene that is stretched too much (such as the "crossing the tree"). Script is reasonable, although there are some parts that clash with the logic (the role of the priest, for example).

CGI turned out quite well. Very suitable as an adventure film for young people. More than 2*

Very nice film adaptation of a book that has a lot on its conscience, because if Conan Doyle was the spiritual father of this, Michael Crichton is the son and Steven Spielberg is the grandson. Nicely thick so that it is entertaining for young and old, just as Conan Doyle's intention was, as evidenced by his foreword to the original novel from 1912: "I have wrought my simple plan / If I give one hour of joy / To the boy who's half a man, / Or the man who's half a boy." The FX are still quite acceptable, the roles are perfectly filled (although James Fox makes a bit too much of a caricature of his character) and the romance does not get in the way of the adventure. Excellent Dutch DVD release of Memphis Belle with the image neatly in 16:9 (while I read somewhere that American viewers are presented with a 4:3 version!), Dutch subtitles, informative audio commentary by producer and director (not subtitled), and a nice 29-minute making-of documentary (subtitled). Of course never as intense or professional as the parts of the modern Jurassic Park franchise, but very fun.
