Certainly not a bad film; of course, they cannot know everything that really took place within those four walls, but most of it seems to be accurate in this reasonably good film based on a true story.

The acting was very good, and it is of course a terrible but compelling story. The crime is obviously inexcusable, but on the other hand, you can also understand it a little.

If you want to hear it from the real Elize, you can also watch the documentary series Elize Matsunaga: Once upon a crime, which is also on Netflix...

But personally, I thought the movie was better.

In a mescaline-fueled society like that of Brazil, life as a woman can be tough; the society is heavily patriarchal, and despite legal equal rights for women, practice shows otherwise. Femicide is rampant. This film reveals a glimpse of that patriarchy in club life. As a Japanese businessman, Marcos exemplifies someone with a major problem, yet power and money can do a lot. Elize, a good performance by Comparato, believes she can escape her current life and anticipates a start with new possibilities. The steps Marcos takes afterward are highly questionable, coupled with his problematic psychosocial behavior. 3.2*

A decent drama. The story is based on a true story and is developed quite strongly by Vellas. The film isn't long and is easy to watch. The build-up is good, although the characters could have been fleshed out a bit more. As a result, the viewer isn't sufficiently drawn into the story. But despite that, the film remains engaging until the end. Comparato delivers a strong and believable performance. 3.0/3.5
