Director Malcolm D. Lee tackles a completely different idea with every project he takes on. Sometimes that works quite well, but Lee consistently delivers the same mediocrity. Strung stands out because the cast members do their very best to imbue it with depth, something that is certainly required when scrutinizing the content. Unfortunately, several names fail to convey any semblance of individuality. Chloe Bailey evokes little empathy in the lead role, and supporting roles like those of Romy Woods and Lynn Whitfield are simply too ridiculous to be memorable. Although the effects are decent and the mystery is kept sufficiently alive, Lee seems determined to constantly focus on the steamy and drawn-out sex scenes. Fans of Bailey will undoubtedly have no problem with this, but it also makes the world of Strung difficult to take seriously and, as a result, feels like it drags on for too long.
