Chérie plot
Ten years ago, folk hero, cult figure, charming singer, and phenomenon Eddy Wally died at the age of 83 from a brain hemorrhage. In the documentary, his daughter Marina and several well-known Flemish people who worked with Eddy reminisce about The Voice of Europe. These testimonies are interspersed with never-before-seen archive footage of Eddy at his home, in Miami, and in Egypt.

Take a step back in time with this documentary about one of the most distinctive entertainers Flanders has ever known. He had a larger-than-life personality, giving himself the allure of a world star. He had a sizable fan base that bussed out to his venue in Ertvelde for his concerts. He received a great deal of national media attention during his lifetime, but it was mostly just laugh-out-loud television. Was he playing along, or was he truly naive? That's one of the topics explored in this documentary, which essentially offers a "historical correction" by looking at his life with more respect than he ever received in life. The filmmaker's focus is therefore primarily on Eddy's personality. His "fantastic career" perhaps offered fewer opportunities to delve deeper. Furthermore, we don't learn much about Eddy's business side. He was a market vendor, that's for sure. But how did he manage in his music business? We see a few glimpses, but that's it. This is, however, a charming, nostalgic look back at a showman par excellence. Anyone hoping for a definitive look at the man will be disappointed. The enigma remains completely intact here.
