Ice Cream Man plot
"We all scream."
The peaceful existence of a village is shattered during the summer by the arrival of an ice cream vendor. He offers unsuspecting children sweet treats that, once consumed, lead to gruesome scenes. The school becomes the scene of crimes committed by deranged children. Meanwhile, a minority of the young people struggle to survive their new reality.

Director Eli Roth remains a noteworthy name among horror enthusiasts, but if he continues to deliver films of this quality, it will soon be taken away from him. Ice Cream Man essentially delivers exactly what you expect from it: a large layer of bloody scenes that, after a while, fly at you incessantly. Roth’s urge to show everything with practical violence is enjoyable, and the lighthearted tone is infectious for a while, but the filmmakers make little further effort to incorporate a storyline, and certainly during the second half, many scenes are included that are merely meant to randomly indicate the direction. It is literally a poor excuse for giving substance to a project that exists solely in the context of showcasing violent murders. Normally, that isn't annoying, but it is when you subsequently throw caution to the wind regarding all other influences. Moreover, the acting is abysmal, and the inclusion of AI-generated footage (there aren't many, but they are certainly present) deserves penalty points.

A fun and deliciously gritty film. Just like the rest of Eli Roth's films, the story here is once again secondary to the blood splatters. It is also one of those films where you keep thinking: there could have been so much more to this.
Still, had a great time for the evening and laughed at the absurd kills; certainly not as bad as the average here makes it seem.
