Bringing a story by writer Edgar Allan Poe to the big screen is difficult, especially when his stories contain an abundance of descriptive text. Director Gregori J. Martin's boldness in attempting it nonetheless certainly deserves praise, but the end result is abysmal on almost all fronts. The Raven has turned into a cheap-looking piece of junk, featuring two hamming protagonists who vainly and hopelessly try to find a balance between the worthless dialogue and the excess of unbelievable emotions. Martin's choice to drag this nonsense out endlessly (the thin plot revolving around little more than a man mourning his lost love in his own home) is remarkable, considering that as a viewer you are stuck with an overacting protagonist who seems to have a runny nose in every scene. The content often makes absolutely no sense, but perhaps Poe enthusiasts can make something of it, though I strongly doubt it.
