The Partisan plot

In 1941, the aristocratic Krystyna Skarbek embarks on her first adventure as a spy for the British: she skis across the mountains into Nazi-occupied Poland. Her mission is to join the Polish resistance and smuggle out intelligence on microfilm reels. She also plans to bring her Jewish mother—who has sought refuge in a Warsaw church—out of Poland.
