C'était Mieux Demain plot

In a small French village, Hélène, Michel, and their two children live happily in the carefree 1950s. Suddenly, they are catapulted to 2024, where the couple discovers a modern world at odds with the one they know. For Hélène, who has always lived in her husband's shadow, it's a revolution. But for Michel, who sees his male privileges go up in smoke, it's a disaster. Between the breath of fresh air and the scent of the past, this journey through time will not be easy.

Proud housewife Hélène [Elsa Zylberstein] and conservative husband Michel [Didier Bourbon] travel from 1958 to 2025 via a new washing machine (don't ask how). A variation on the body swap premise, in which the main characters merely take over each other's “roles” and where family members, friends, and colleagues are the same age as in 1958. In 2025, Hélène is a career woman and Michel a depressed househusband. The confrontation with modern technologies, norms, and values yields amusing moments, but this only really gets going when Hélène and Michel start doing their best to fulfill their roles as parents. Zylberstein is particularly caricatural in 1958, but Bourdon is completely in his element from beginning to end and therefore has the best moments. Makes no sense, but is quite entertaining.
