The film depicts the parents' struggle for their children in court and does so convincingly: the stories of both the father and the mother are credible, making it clear that the judge is facing a difficult dilemma. However, instead of ending the ambiguity or providing a twist that sheds new light on the previous story and at least resolves the dilemma for the viewer, the film ends with the film's title and the statistics that a vast number of children are abused, yet there are practically no convictions: the film is a call to take seriously the "on vous croit" ("we believe you") that the investigating judge tells the children to get them talking, so that more convictions can follow. This may be morally correct, but it is legally problematic (the justice system doesn't blindly believe the children because you don't know what the mother whispered to them to smear the father, which is precisely the dilemma facing the judge), and it doesn't improve the film.

Alice [Myriem Akheddiou] is irritable and nervous in the lead-up to a hearing before a juvenile court judge [Natali Broods]. Her ex-husband [Laurent Capelluto] demands visitation rights with his daughter [Adèle Pinckaers] and his son [Ulysse Goffin], who, however, have indicated they do not want contact with their father. Alice claims there are valid reasons for this, but her ex-husband claims she is manipulating her children. The vast majority of the film consists of an exact verbal reconstruction of the hearing, with Devillers and Dufeys focusing the cameras primarily on the parents. Whatever conclusions you draw from their facial expressions (which is debatable), you'll know within a few minutes. It's therefore a mystery why the filmmakers chose this monotonous, static visual style. Well-acted, but never convincing.

For the first five minutes, I had to get used to that screaming child and was afraid I'd be caught up in another overblown family drama. This was mainly due to the cramped image format and a camera that seemed to shoot haphazardly, making it hard to see what was happening on screen. It seemed more like incompetence to me. Visually, it was rather dull.

But after fifteen minutes, once you're in the judge's chambers, the film improves significantly. That bare-bones approach is perfect and almost necessary here, and as a viewer, just like the judge, you only have the lawyers' and both ex-spouses' stories, allowing you to weigh in for yourself (although that guy looked like a narcissist from the very first second, so I immediately believed the woman too). Well-acted, interesting content, and excellent length—this shouldn't be any longer. However, I also found the film visually somewhat simple and cheap. Even with a bare-bones approach, you can do more. 3.5 stars.
