The Thinking Game plot

Is a machine that really thinks ever achievable? Demis Hassabis, the father of Artificial Intelligence, takes you on a fascinating journey where AI is much more than a handy tool that can do one specific task well. As the founder and CEO of DeepMind, he and his team are searching for AGI, Artificial General Intelligence, a type of general artificial intelligence that not only matches the entire range of human thinking skills, but surpasses it.

This is a rather unremarkable documentary about a remarkable subject. We mainly see talking heads and shots of Demis Hassabis, founder of DeepMind, one of the leading AI companies. The Thinking Game doesn't reveal exactly how AI works, but it does reveal that the people working on it are passionate. Critical questions aren't asked here. Hassabis also doesn't seem particularly interested in security issues. He believes technology is neutral. He sees it as his life's work to realize artificial general intelligence, and the potential consequences for others aren't addressed in this documentary. Now, I'm willing to believe that Hassabis and Google are among the better players in this race, but the question is whether that ultimately matters. See, for example, the interviews with Geoffrey Hinton. Oh, and that this documentary has been viewed 239 million times, as YouTube indicates, seems highly unlikely to me. A bit of self-promotion by Google?
