Motivational speaker Val is struggling one day with an incessant itch at the back of her head. The strange condition turns out to be the work of a parasitic demon from her homeland. It slowly takes control of her body and mind. As she tries to fight the demon, her and her husband Robbie's lives are turned upside down.

A visually appealing horror drama film with a deserved lead role for Kelly Marie Tran, whom I wholeheartedly hope will be a success after her Star Wars period. She and Miles Robbins deliver excellent work and are convincing in the rather clichéd world created here. A world in which director Shal Ngo struggles to build suspense, as this computer-generated monster won't frighten many viewers. The editing and color are good, with a strong emphasis on making a modern film. There are some gruesome scenes towards the end, but the buildup is too long, and Control Freak doesn't truly draw you in. This won't raise the score, but the average is remarkably low for the basic quality that is simply delivered.
