Une Pastorale Américaine plot

In 2023, a fierce cultural and political-ideological battle rages in a conservative Pennsylvania town over the curriculum of a public school. With the lion’s share of the school board up for re-election, fundamentalist board candidates are campaigning through the leafy neighborhoods of Elizabethtown. The rise of white supremacy, conspiracy theorists and Christian nationalism is unstoppable in the growing ranks of the local Republican Party. Democrats fear, not without reason, a ban on literature with “sexual content” and the stigmatization of LGBTQ+ children.

In Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, five of the nine seats are at stake in the upcoming elections. The Democratic candidates are deeply concerned about the growing influence of fundamentalist Christians, who are primarily targeting policies regarding what they consider "perverse" or "pornographic" books during their campaign.
