Our Holiday Story plot

"A Christmas'd connection"

As Dave and Nell tell their love story to their daughter’s boyfriend, Chris, we follow them through a special Christmas where fate has routinely brought them together—and kept them apart. But while Dave and Nell were trying to find each other, they were unaware that they were work enemies paired up to organize a Christmas festival for their town. Meanwhile, in the present, Chris struggles with his own relationship issues as he tries to say “I love you” to his girlfriend, Jo, for the first time.

In itself a clever story that remains interesting by the alternation of present, past, witty misdeeds and multiple characters. Exceptional for this Hallmark is that the outcome of the fate of the main characters is already determined at the beginning of the film.

I found the acting a bit over the top at times, in a Hallmark style, so to speak, but the reasonably entertaining storyline keeps it interesting.

Towards the end, the abuses and miscommunication are milked dry and we have to wait just a little too long for a conclusion.

I'm a fan of the corny Hallmark genre and have seen many, especially in the run-up to the holidays, when I watch the Christmas movies that are released at that time.

This one tries to be a bit more original by interweaving two love stories and using numerous flashbacks. Not bad in itself, but in this film, I found it a bit confusing at times, given that the flashbacks were only 10 years old and the actors didn't even look any younger. This might have been due to budgetary considerations (makeup), but it meant that the flashbacks weren't particularly special and therefore didn't add any real value. So, very Hallmark-style...

I've seen much better ones. It didn't really appeal to me.

I also didn't connect with the romance. And there was no magic between the actors.

2.5*.
